Everything you need to know about Token-mon and Metallica City.
Token-mon has a free demo that lets you explore the first two districts, battle two bosses (Rusty Pete and Vex), collect creatures, and play arcade machines. Your progress carries over when you purchase the full game for $9.99 (Early Access price).
Token-mon runs entirely in your web browser — desktop or mobile. No download or install required. Just open token-mon.com, create an account, and start playing. The game is optimized for landscape orientation on phones.
There are 71 Token-mon creatures across 6 metal types: Iron, Copper, Silver, Gold, Chrome, and Titanium. Each creature has unique base stats, attacks, abilities, and many have evolution chains. Browse the complete Tokendex to see them all.
Token-mon shares the creature-collection DNA — you catch creatures, build a team, evolve them, and battle bosses. But the combat is completely different: instead of turn-based menus, Token-mon uses a slot-reel system where you spin three reels each turn. The setting is cyberpunk instead of fantasy, the types are metals instead of elements, and the story is darker — about a teenager searching for missing parents inside a sentient AI. Read our full Token-mon vs Pokemon comparison.
Each turn you spin three reels with five symbol types: Attack, Defense, Heal, Energy, and Special. Matching symbols increases your power — 2x for a double match, 3.5x for a triple with a guaranteed critical hit. You manage energy (max 6) to fuel your spins, and build a team of 1 Main + 3 Support Token-mon with type-based passive bonuses. See our full battle system guide.
A full playthrough takes 30-50+ hours depending on your completionist level. The main story has 8 boss battles across 10 districts, but there are also 71 creatures to collect, 50+ arcade machines to master, 67+ leaderboards to compete on, 15 NPC quests, and a post-game Arena League with 25 challengers across 5 tiers.
Each metal type has a unique passive ability: Iron (+15% attack damage), Copper (+1 energy per turn), Silver (+25% healing), Gold (+20% crit chance), Chrome (10% damage reflection), and Titanium (+5% to all stats). Team composition and type synergies are key to beating bosses. Read our complete type guide.
Professor Alloy offers you three copper-type starters: Copperion (highest HP, tank), Voltwire (balanced, evolves to legendary Voltempror), and Spark-Wire (fastest, glass cannon). All three share Copper-type energy regeneration, making the early game more forgiving. See our beginner's guide for tips.
There are 8 bosses in Metallica City, each guarding a district and holding secrets about your missing parents: Rusty Pete (Industrial), Vex (Underground), Copper Kate (Tech), Sterling Silva (Golden Gateway), Golden Gus (Casino), Chrome Guardian (Chrome Bridge), Silver Sage (Mystic Heights), and Titanium De-Troyer (The Citadel). Meet them all on our bosses page.
Token-mon is a single-player RPG. However, there are 67+ global high score leaderboards where you compete against other players for top scores on every arcade machine. Beating a boss's high score on their machine guarantees a rare Token-mon drop. Check the live global leaderboards.
Token-mon was vibe coded over 8 months by a solo developer using Claude Code (85%+ of the 100,000-line codebase), Leonardo AI (all 417 sprites), Suno AI (29+ music tracks), and Replit (hosting). A family of four — developer, creative director wife, and two sons as playtesters — brought it to life. Read the full development story.

Yes — Token-mon has a full narrative told through visual-novel cutscenes. You play as Greffe Hortis, a teenager searching for missing parents inside The Core, a sentient AI. Each of the 8 bosses knew your parents and reveals a piece of the truth. The story explores themes of sacrifice, consciousness, and what it means to choose your family. The bosses are not just opponents — they are characters with real personalities and emotional arcs.
